Project
Skills training bolsters contractor’s ranks
Considering the wide variety and very high quality of our construction courses, Tjeka was appointed by Roadmac Surfacing to upskill Griekwastad community members. This has enabled the company to bolster its ranks with very capable workers who understand flagging procedures and STOP/GO control; basic firefighting; and safety, health and environment representation on a road construction project in the area.
However, the focus was not only on developing the skills needed for this road construction project. Community members were also taught important construction business skills, including tendering and implementing site management procedures. This is in addition to bricklaying and plumbing, two highly sought after building trades. In this way, we have greatly improved these individuals’ chances of securing employment on other construction projects, or to succeed as construction entrepreneurs.
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
