Our NQF4 Supervision of Construction Processes (Civils Foreman/Supervisor) Labour-intensive learnership has never been more relevant. This is considering the large socio-economic development focus of government-driven infrastructure projects.

These projects require careful planning and execution of predominantly manual labour. This skill includes a meticulous focus on labour recruitment; training; tasks allocation; and productivity monitoring. To further maximise efficiency, the appropriate materials and tools need to be readily available.

Learners must be competent in NQF3 Communication, as well as Mathematical and Computer Literacy to register for this Tjeka qualification.

Holders of a Tjeka NQF 4 Supervision of Construction Processes qualification (SAQA) possess the following competencies:

• Compliance with contractual requirements and ability to execute obligations
• An ability to calculate construction quantities and develop a work plan
• An understanding of environmental initiatives and how to implement them
• An understanding of the structure; various stakeholders; and role of the larger construction industry
• An ability to implement a quality management system
• Leadership and administrative abilities
• An ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications and execute this information
• An ability to supervise health and safety on worksites
• An ability to supervise the procurement, use and storage of construction materials
• An ability to establish work areas
• An understanding of various construction materials and their application
• An understanding of labour-intensive construction systems and techniques and their application
• An ability to organise and control the use of plant and equipment
• An ability to oversee concreting activities
• An ability to plan, organise and control the installation of pressure and gravity drainage pipelines
