Roads and Earthworks Civils Foreman/Supervisor NQF4
Our NQF4 Supervision of Construction Processes roads and earthworks (Civil Foreman/Supervisor) learnership develops the skills needed to lead road construction and earthworks teams.
Equipped with the correct skills, these professionals can be entrusted with overseeing projects from inception to completion. In doing so, they hold together the intricate tapestry of plans, people, materials and equipment. This while navigating many risks and challenges that are encountered on a typical road construction or earthworks project. Their role extends beyond administrative tasks. It includes quality assurance; risk mitigation; and communication facilitation.
To register for this qualification, learners must be competent in NQF3 Communication, as well as Mathematical and Computer Literacy.
Competent supervision of construction processes
Holders of this NQF4 qualification (SAQA) ensure competent supervision of roads and earthworks, having developed the following skills:
- An understanding of contracts and their sources
- Knowledge of the composition, stakeholders and the role of the construction industry
- Protective clothing and equipment identification and use, as well as basic first aid application
- Construction drawings and specifications interpretation and execution
- An understanding of and ability to implement technological knowledge and skills in systems and control
- Hand-held power tools and small plant use and maintenance
- Concrete batching and mixing by volume
- Gabion baskets installation
- Maintenance of minor structures within road reserves, as well as vegetation control using herbicides
- Transport using light-commercial vehicles
- Knowledge of environmental initiatives and their application
- Guardrails and furniture installation and maintenance
- Anti-dazzle screens; manholes and chambers; precast-concrete pipes; and road studs installation
- Knowledge of different construction materials and their application
- Mixing and application of slurry using a mixer
- Mechanical core drill operation
- Road symbol application using a spray gun
- Bank protection
- Batter poles/boards, profiles and layer work pegs replacement based on given survey data
- An ability to set-out points for centre and edge lines for road marking
- Fence erection
