Plumber NQF4

A NQF4 Plumber qualification via Tjeka is helping to address a severe shortage of qualified plumbers. These professionals ensure a reliable and secure supply of potable water to buildings. This is in addition to the healthy and safe disposal of waste.

Their skills are also indispensable for the construction of energy and water efficient “green” buildings. Modern plumbers are increasingly expected to be skilled in the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of “smart” plumbing systems. This is in addition to solar-water heaters and heat pumps. Many have also started installing innovative non-centralised sewer systems.

Not to be overlooked is the role that plumbing plays in protecting buildings from damage. This is by providing a way for water to be drained away from the structure.

To register for this qualification, individuals must hold a NQF3 qualification.

It can also be accessed via recognition-of-prior learning. Tjeka will apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and confirm prior learning.

NQF4 Plumber (SAQA) knowledge

Holders of a NQF4 Plumber qualification possess the following knowledge:

An understanding of health, safety, quality and legislation
An understanding of the environment; energy efficiency; and ethics
An understanding of tools, equipment, components and site practice
An understanding of drawings and applied sciences
An understanding of theory of water and drainage excavation
An understanding of below-ground drainage systems
An understanding of hot and cold-water systems
An understanding of plumbing systems installation and maintenance theory

NQF4 Plumber practical experience

This knowledge is complemented by the following NQF4 Plumber qualification practical experience:

An ability to install, maintain and test above-ground soil waste and vent systems and sanitary ware appliances
An ability to install, maintain and test below-ground drainage; cold and hot-water; and rain-water systems
