Solar Water Installer NQF4

Our NQF4 Solar Water Installer occupational qualification (SAQA) imparts the skills required to install, maintain and repair solar-water heaters.

The efficiency of these systems largely depends on proper installation. This is influenced by an array of factors. They include sunshine; local building codes; safety considerations; roofing conditions; and climate. Therefore, only a qualified specialist can be entrusted to work on solar-water heater correctly.

Solar-water heaters that have been installed, maintained and repaired by a Tjeka-trained specialist will add value for many years.

To register for this qualification, individuals must hold a NQF3 qualification.

It can also be accessed via recognition-of-prior learning. Tjeka will apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and confirm prior learning.

NQF4 Solar Water Installer

Holders of a NQF4 Solar Water Installer qualification possess the following knowledge:

  • An understanding of theory of water
  • An understanding of solar-water heating tools, equipment and components
  • An understanding of solar-water heating systems
  • An understanding of preparation, installation and maintenance theory

This knowledge is complemented by NQF4 Solar Water Installer practical skills:

  • An ability to plan and prepare for and install pipes and their fittings; mounts; and a solar-water system
  • An ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • An ability to erect, use and dismantle access equipment for installation purposes
  • An ability to plan and prepare the work in safe and compliant environments
  • An ability to maintain and repair solar-water systems

Solar Water Installer work experience

Moreover, holders of this qualification will have gained NQF4 Solar Water Installer work experience. As part of the course, learners will work alongside experienced solar water installers to gain practice in the following areas:

  • Site preparation and planning for installation in specific environmental conditions
  • Processes and procedures for installation, testing, commissioning and “housekeeping”
  • Procedures and processes for assessment, diagnosis, fault finding and maintenance
